BACKGROUND

Sivuyiseni Public Primary School is situated in a township called Khayelitsha in Cape Flats in the Western Cape province. The school was established in January 1994. On the 08th February 1994 Sivuyiseni opened its doors of learning.

Over the years Sivuyiseni has grown from strength to strength and undoubtedly brought about a lot of change. As the decade of the 90s wore on more leaners were enrolled at Sivuyiseni. Currently the school is a home to approximately 1300 leaners who come from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and religions, providing a rich and diverse culture which we embrace and believe nurtures tolerance and understanding. We also have 48 staff members which consists of educators and non-teaching staff. While the façade of the school has remained unchanged over the years, the facilities have grown to include computer labs, garden, extra-curricular activities and a fully equipped foundation and senior phase buildings.  The school saw an increase in the technology available for teaching and a big change in the school curriculum which in itself brought different challenges to the school.

The school offers ICT facilities that enable the leaners and staff to maximize their learning experience through the incorporation of ICT into curriculum areas. We place a strong emphasis on Technology and Innovation in and outside the classroom and we strive to empower learners and prepare them for the future and its challenges.  In 2010 Sivuyiseni became a full-service school which implies that it has expanded its mission and vision to cater for the needs of all its leaners by providing integrated services such as mental health, social, human services and other services that are beneficial to meeting the needs of children and their families on school grounds.

We aim to make education accessible to a wider range of children.
